PADDLESPORTS GUIDE TRAININGS
PADDLESPORTS GUIDE TRAINING I - 35hr course March 2012, 2 - 4 & 9 (evening) Students in our Paddlesports Guide Basics I will be introduced to the necessary skills to lead flat water kayak and canoe trips through quality leadership and instruction. Session focus is on the preparation, execution, and evaluation of various excursion types and group management skills. Learn effective guiding skills, basic strokes, packing and gear organization, weather action plans (winds, rain & lightning), group safety management, basic map and compass skills, assisted & self-rescues, and the use of tide tables. Participants should be strong swimmers and must provide their own paddle gear. Frog Hollow can provide boats and gear for an additional fee. Sliding scale and group discounts available. FREE for current Frog Hollow Staff $210 for general public Reimbursement “bonus” for passing participants with consistent commit to Frog Hollow for a full season
PADDLESPORTS GUIDE TRAINING II - 70hr course (includes Level I hours) 2012 Dates TBA Students completing Level I have the option of continuing on into our Paddlesports Guide Training II. Level II will focus on aspects of guiding overnight group paddle trips during the course of a 2 night trip through the lower Roanoke River Basin. Participants must be strong swimmers and must provide their own paddle gear. Frog Hollow can provide boats and gear for an additional fee. Sliding scale and group discounts available. FREE for current Frog Hollow Staff $310 for general public $210 just for overnight portion
KAYAK FUNDAMENTALS INSTRUCTOR TRAININGs I & II Students in our Kayak Instructor courses will learn various teaching methods and basic safety considerations for instructing introductory kayaking skills. Instructors-In-Training (IITs) are required to do pre-class research, prepare short lesson plans and teach their lesson plans to other IITs in the course. IITs must have previous kayak and canoe experience and be strong swimmers. Participation in Frog Hollow’s Intro to Kayak Class does meet this sessions experience requirements. Participants must provide their own paddle gear. Frog Hollow can provide boats and gear for an additional fee.
INSTRUCTOR TRAINING I - INTRO TO KAYAKING - 35hr course March 2011, 11-13 & 19 / 8pm-10pm Friday/8am-6pm Weekends 2012 DATES TBA Instructors-In-Training (IITs) will learn “classroom” management skills and safety, proper and efficient paddling technique and instruction methods, boat rescue and self-rescue for flat water. Sliding scale and group discounts available. FREE for current Frog Hollow Staff $210 for general public Reimbursement “bonus” for passing participants with consistent commit to Frog Hollow for a full season
INSTRUCTOR TRAINING II - RIVER FUNDAMENTALS - 50hr course March 18-20, 26, 27 - 8pm-10pm Weekdays/8am-6pm Weekends 2012 DATES TBA Level II Instructors-In-Training (IITs) will review Level I curriculum and concepts, then shift into moving water skills which emphasize river safety, hydrology, and mechanics for maneuvering through and negotiating various river features. WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER 2012 TBA The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is widely recognized as the “gold standard” medical course for guides, trip leaders, camp staffs and other outdoor professionals. This course is demanding and comprehensive and covers a variety of topics from patient assessment and treatment of illnesses and traumatic injuries to the logistics of providing care in remote environments and foreign countries.
Our Instructors are all experienced professionals who donʼt just teach, but are currently practicing wilderness EMTs, Paramedics and Physicians. In order to accommodate the schedules of students and working professionals, this course will take place over two weekends and six weeknights. Our course centers around hands-on, scenario-based instruction with an emphasis on the latest evidence-based treatment guidelines.
Upon successful completion of course requirements, participants will receive a three-year certification as a Wilderness First Responder and a waterproof photo credential Course Fee: TBD |
