Cape Fear River Canoe & Kayak Trip

High water and bad weather can make paddling anywhere dangerous.  Paddlers should always use their own judgment to decide if their personal paddling skills match potential paddling conditions they may find themselves in. 

Lillington to Erwin
Minimum Water Level Required to Paddle: 1.3 feet, usually above minimum.

Type of Trip: Point A-to-Point B white water paddle

Length of Trip: 3 to 5 hours

Put In: Wildlife Resources Boat Ramp just downstream from the town of Lillington

Take Out: NC 217 bridge crossing near Erwin

Description: The Cape Fear is a wide scenic river, for a Piedmont river it usually has a good flow year round.  About half way down this section is a large island that is best run around the left side.  This island is also a great lunch stop.   

Possible Challenges: Class I-II+ White Water, length of trip, take out is up a very steep hill

All paddlers on non-guided trips at this location must have previous moving water
canoeing or kayaking experience
