15 Easy Ways YOU Can Support a River


There are many ways YOU as an individual can help to support a local river.  We hope that this list gives you some good places to start!

  1. Get out, paddle, and enjoy a river responsibly
  2. Share your knowledge and interest of a river with others
  3. Volunteer for a local environmental non-profit
  4. Get involved with a river cleanup effort
  5. Adopt a body of water though a local "Stream Watch" program
  6. Get involved in local politics
  7. Practice "Leave No Trace" outdoor ethics
  8. Carry the phone #s below with you on all your paddling trips
  9. Take a trash bag on every paddling trip to pick up litter
  10. Dispose of trash and recyclables properly.
  11. Dispose of household and automotive chemicals and supplies properly
  12. Discard old medications properly (Do not flush them down the toilet!)
  13. Respect wildlife
  14. Become familiar with and obey permit requirements, fishing limits, and other laws pertaining to local rivers and lakes

  • Vandalism or theft at river access and parking areas - Call 911
