Indoor Pool Kayak Sessions Sessions take place at the Edison Johnson Aquatic Center in Durham Hone your safety and rescue skills regardless of what the outside temperature. These 1.5 hour sessions are a great way to learn or brush up your kayak abilities. Wet Exit & T-Rescue Classes - Beginner - Feb 8, Feb 29 - 7 pm start time Skills every kayaker should know and be able to perform without hesitation! Learn how to get out of various styles of capsized kayaks and re-enter in deep water safely and with confidence. $50 per person
Deep Water Rescue Classes - Beginner to Advanced - March 28 - 7 pm start time Do yourself and those you'll be paddling with a favor, learn how to manage various deep water rescue scenarios! This session covers both self and multi boat rescues. If you enjoy lake, sound, ocean, or any type of open water paddling you should take this class. $50 per person
Open Pool Session Feb 8, 29, Mar 28 - 8:30 pm start time Open sessions for those with their own boats! These 1.5 hour sessions do not require registration. Bring your CLEAN (inside and out) boat to Edison Johnson Aquatic Center during the times and dates indicated above and practice your roll and rescue skills on your own! These sessions do not include formal instruction. Kayaks can be made available for these sessions but this must be arranged at least 1 week prior to Open Pool Session date. $5 per person

Intro to Kayaking - Beginner Apr 4, 19, May 2, 17, June 6, 21, July 4, 19, Aug 1, 16, Sept 5, 20, Oct 3, 18, Nov 7, 22 In this 4 hour class we will learn about various types of kayaking along with fundamental kayak skills including identifying hazards, basic strokes, concepts in craft handling, wet exits, and rescues in calm water. River Kayaking Fundamentals - Beginner River Kayaker Apr 12, May 24, June 28, Sept 27, Oct 25 River reading, eddy turns, peel outs, and upstream ferrying, identifying hazards, and basic self rescue, are just some of the fundamental river skills that are covered in this class. Touring/Sea Kayaking Fundamentals - Beginner to Intermediate Apr 5, May 3, Jun 7, Aug 2, Sept 6, Oct 4 This daylong class will focus on equipment, basic navigation, braces, maneuvers, wet exits, safety and numerous rescue scenarios. Kayak Open/Deep Water Rescue Intensive - Beginner to Advanced July 26, Sept 13 Do you feel comfortable with your strokes? Spend half a day learning and fine tuning all of these invaluable skills that every kayaker should know for themselves and the sake of the others they paddle with. Canoe Instructional - Beginner Private lessons only (2 people min) This 3 hour class will introduce the skills you need to paddle with efficiency & confidence in the bow or stern position of a canoe. We will cover equipment, strokes, maneuvers, safety, and rescues. Course can be lengthened to cover BSA Canoeing Merit Badge requirements. $45 per person (2-3 people) $35 per person (4-6 people) $30 per person (7+ people)

River Canoeing - Intermediate Private lessons only (2-6 people). Paddling in the Triangle Region PowerPoint Presentation 2008 dates TBA These free PowerPoint presentations sessions will give the Triangle Area paddler, a sense of how to gauge the fluctuating Piedmont river water levels; information regarding year round paddling opportunities; available resources for local paddling; discussion time to learn from and share with other local paddlers.
